Did you know that virtually all of western Quebec's rivers have at least one dam along their length? Some rivers, like the Lievre have several dams within a few kilometers of each other. Yet, there is one river that is still wild and free of dams - the Dumoine River. The Dumoine flows out of the LaVerendrye Wildlife Reserve in western Quebec to join the Ottawa River near the community of Rapides-des-Joachims. It is one of the best white water rivers in the Ottawa region and until recently, was under threat from logging, mining and hydro-electric development. Join John McDonnell, Executive Director of the Ottawa Valley Chapter of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society to learn more about this incredible river and the successful campaign to protect it . . . forever.
