Dr. Shiv Chopra, microbiologist and veterinarian, has committed his entire 35-year career to food safety. At Health Canada he was responsible for the evaluation of drugs, antibiotics, vaccines, hormones and other products. Dr. Chopra and his colleagues, Dr. Margaret Haydon and Dr. Gérard Lambert, refused to approve various harmful drugs going into food production, regardless of the consequences to their careers. In 1999 Dr. Chopra blocked the use of bovine growth hormone in Canada.
