Achievements in 2007
- Over 7000 participants. More than 40% growth in attendance over our first edition.
- The opening conference, "Mission Antarctique," presented by 2007 honorary president Jean Lemire, was a major success. Over 700 people enjoyed his superb presentation.
- Pascale Bussières served as our spokesperson for a second year.
- 170 exhibitors covering many fields: green architecture, clean energy, new technologies, organic farming, natural foods, family health, nature conservation, products and resources, fashion and design, and ecotourism. This number of exhibitors makes Projet ECOSPHERE Quebec's biggest and most comprehensive environmental event.
- The Université de Sherbrooke, Guelph University (Ontario),
and Cégep de Victoriaville presented their respective environmental
and new technology programs.
- Fifty experts gave presentations on major environmental issues: climate change, healthy housing, self-sufficiency using solar and wind power, blue-green algae, birth ecology, medicinal plants, sound forest management, horticulture and gardening. The speakers included:
- Harvey L. Mead, Commissioner for Sustainable Development, Office of the AUDITOR GENERAL of QUEBEC
- Camille Pomerleau, from the CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY (CIDA)
- Jean-Philippe Messier, Director, Manicouagan-Uapishka UNESCO Biosphere Reserve
- Jean-François Girard, biologist and lawyer in environmental
law, CENTRE QUÉBÉCOIS DU DROIT DE L'ENVIRONNEMENT (CQDE)
- Nicolas Rousseau, P.Eng., Director of Land Management and Development, VILLE DE BROMONT
- Richard Lauzier, Agronomist with the MAPAQ service centre in Bedford
- Lucie Sauvé, Canada Research Chair in Environmental Education
from UQÀM
- Photo and video expositions presented by the Biosphère (Environment
Canada), ÉcoTerre and Équiterre.
- Attended by the local MNA and MP as well as the Warden of MRC Brome-Missisquoi and Mayor of Cowansville.
- 7 films and documentaries, including Al Gore's Une vérité
qui dérange (An Inconvenient Truth), the BBC's Planet Earth and
NFB documentaries.
- A relaxed, friendly and stimulating atmosphere - truly the most festive environmental country fair!
- entire weekend blessed with sun, colours and smiles.
- A ZERO waste event. We even did our own on-site composting!
- Creative healthy food restaurants (organic caterers, and a country market).
- Demonstration of hybrid and electric vehicles by Cowansville Toyota and of a vegetable oil powered vehicle.
- The event transcended Quebec's borders, attracting people from Vermont and Ontario.
